With rumors circulating of a new Twisted Metal game in the works with comments from video game designer and Twisted Metal director David Jaffe like "Eight or nine months away" regarding a new Twisted Metal title. In a recent webshow, Jaffe went on record saying:
"Here's the weekly struggle on my current game. I don't think I'm giving anything away, but our new game does have vehicles in it. We would love to have those vehicles control using modern control configurations. Everybody picks up a controller these days and [they] say, 'Oh, gas and brake are on the shoulder buttons.' They're no longer on the face buttons. But if suddenly we were to say those vehicles have other functionality besides driving. Well, suddenly the game don't play very well when you put the gas [on the shoulder buttons]. But I know if we were to put this hypothetical game with vehicles that did other things besides drive in a new players hands, they're going to want to control it like they're controlling Burnout."
Jim's 2 Cent's: Now while everything is certainly pointing towards a new Twisted Metal game that I am super excited for being a die hard fan of the series, I won't get too excited just yet! I mean you never know, Jaffe could be talking about a completely new racing game, while this seems unlikely from the kinda "hint hint" statement above, companies have been known to do this before where they seem to be talking about a series return only for it to turn out to be a brand new game. Nothing wrong with that, the more video games the merrier.
However, it has been awhile since Twisted Metal Black released back in 2001 and the PS3 is certainly due for an entry. With Jaffe's new company Eat Sleep Play, Jaffe has stated from the start that under his new company that he would develop a new Twisted Game for the PS3. Also, a Hidden Message in the "Dark Past" documentary featured in Twisted Metal: Head-On for the PS2 revealed the words: "Twisted Metal is Coming on PS3". At the moment Sony has made no official comment regarding the new Twisted Metal title and Jaffe has remained tight lipped on Eat Sleep Play's first title until Sony gives them the go ahead to make an official announcement.

My gut tells me from all the tid bits and the years in advance that go into developing a game, that Jaffe's new Eat Sleep Play title will in fact be Twisted Metal on the PS3. With this year's E3 June 15-17th, what better place to make an official announcement or even better yet a playable demo! Here's to hoping! This Twisted Metal junkie is excited.
