The Four P's: Past, Present, Precognition, and Playstation.

How many people remember the original Playstation home console? Just about everybody does. How many people remember how the videogame industry was like when the Playstation was a big hit? Most of everyone does. Now, how many people remember saying or hearing; "Playstation will NEVER take off!" Not as much people can say that nowadays. Truth be told, almost everybody has forgotten how the industry has changed. Playstation did a remarkable job at that. The original Playstation was a tremendous success, and it helped to popularize the CD format.

Fast forward to 2000. Sony released their Playstation 2 home console. This brought about a significant change in the industry. Not only did it contribute to the rise of DVD home players, but it also helped prompt Microsoft into the home console market. No longer were the days that Nintendo and Sega were bashing it out in the living room, it was all purely divided by this time, into three major consoles and nothing more.

Here we are almost into 2012, and the Playstation 3 had helped to usher in a new era of gaming. The Xbox 360 was mostly responsible for bringing about the High-Definition revolution in consoles. The Playstation 3 got Blu-Ray off of its high horse, and forever banished HD-DVD off of the face of the Earth. Beyond  that the Playstation 3 has not accomplished much more in terms of innovation. What lies ahead for the Playstation 3?

Well to start off, we already have a solid library of games built up for it. It has games for everyone, truly. Uncharted 3 is just the latest in the marvels that we have seen on the first Blu-Ray home console. The visuals are solid, Dolby Digital is always great to have, and the controller is a time-tested-and-proven piece of hardware. IT is great for playing Blu-Rays on, the downloadable games are solid as well. There is more to be offered to the masses still.

The question is what does the Playstation 3 have in stores for all of us? Honestly, I can only say look at the upcoming releases to see what trips your trigger. The Last of Us certainly looks like a great game. There is plenty of action to be had in upcoming games though. I am already seeing that since the Wii U has been announced, and  possible hint at the next Xbox console, what about the Playstation 4?

Will it even be called the Playstation 4? I want to be dead center accurate and say that it will be, considering Sony takes pride in its name very much. However, I would be surprised if they do not name it such. We are going through some changes in the industry; we have the online phenomena, retro remakes, downloadable games, DLC, updates, and a more westernized market (domestically speaking in the U.S.A.).

I truly believe the Playstation 3 is a brilliant system, I am sure, there is much more to come for the Playstation 3, and this generation as a whole. I am glad that the Playstation3 and its predecessors came about, the industry needed a more mainstream change. I see a very interesting next generation of console being produced. Let's hope the next in the line of Playstations will be able to continue the trend their predecessors have started.
